- CEA: CE shoppers eye smaller, less-expensive gadgets
The Consumer Electronics Association expects year-over-year electronics sales to increase only one-tenth of a percent in the last quarter instead of the 3.5% increase projected in October. - Study: DVR penetration to hit 44% by 2014
Magna's On-Demand Quarterly report indicates that 44% of U.S. television households will have some kind of digital video recorder by 2014, which will increase total viewing, but erode viewing impressions across the board. "While DVRs will continue to disproportionately impact younger target audiences and network prime time, the aging of our society and the gradually eroding importance of network prime time will likely render such targets incrementally less important in the years ahead," said Brian Wieser, director of industry analysis for Magna. - Survey shows appeal of home entertainment in tough economic times
More than half of adults, citing the economic downturn, plan to spend more time at home with their TVs as entertainment, according to a new poll commissioned by Verizon. The survey also found 62% have an HDTV, and that 16% of those with HD sets are considering buying a second one by the end of 2008. TVWeek.com

- Amazon iPhone app matches photo to product
Amazon.com has launched an iPhone/iPod Touch application to streamline browsing and shopping on its site. The application includes an "Amazon Remembers" service, which lets users identify products they'd like to buy by saving a photo of the product taken using the iPhone's camera, with the pics stored on both the app and Amazon's Web site. - Best Buy sees blue skies for cell phone sales
Best Buy Mobile remains bullish on the prospects for cell phone growth and is coming off a year where sales of high-end multimedia smartphones mushroomed, said Scott Moore, the company's vice president of marketing, who laid out the relatively new division's core strategies.
