- H&M prepares to roll out Jimmy Choo shoes
Thousands of shoppers are expected to converge onto an H&M in London next week when the retailer debuts its collection of shoes from Jimmy Choo. H&M will give the first 160 people in line wristbands and 10 minutes in a VIP area to pick one pair of shoes per size. H&M will offer the shoes for prices considerably lower than they normally sell for. Telegraph (London)

- Sears pins hopes on high-end appliances
In an effort to win back appliance shoppers from retailers such as Home Depot and Lowe's, Sears will add a new line of Jenn-Air kitchen appliances to its lineup this month. In January, Sears will become the only national retail chain to sell the high-end appliances, a move it hopes will turn around a downward trend. Still the dominant player, Sears has seen its piece of the appliance market drop from 40% to 31% in the last decade. Chicago Tribune

- Lands' End offers incentive to donate coats
Clothing retailer Lands' End is offering 20%-off coupons to customers who donate gently used coats for the homeless this winter, as part of a partnership with the National Coalition for the Homeless. Dubbed the Big Warm-up and inspired by a local drive begun in Boston, the initiative launched last week with an e-mail campaign and custom video. Shoe sales have been on the rise during the past three months, as consumers find ways to rationalize their purchases even as they continue to scale back spending in other areas. - Price war shifts to DVDs
On Thursday, Wal-Mart Stores slashed prices of 10 highly anticipated DVD releases to $10 for online sales. Amazon and Target quickly matched some of the reductions, prompting Wal-Mart to drop its price by a penny. The exchange is the next battle in the ongoing price war among the retailers. - Overstock.com CEO discusses outlook, tracking
In this wide-ranging interview with The Wall Street Journal, Patrick Byrne, the chief executive officer at Overstock.com, discusses everything from the company's history and strategies to his campaign against "naked short-selling." Byrne also says the retailer is bringing back Sabine Ehrenfeld, "the famous O girl." Byrne also touches on behavioral tracking, a practice that the FTC is scrutinizing. - Tax refund approved in unemployment bill will save retail jobs
NRF welcomed the passage of legislation that will bring recession-plagued retailers more than $10 billion in badly needed cash by lengthening the period during which they can "carry back" current losses to claim a tax refund from previous years when they made a profit. - Starbucks pushing growth through Via, Seattle's Best
Starbucks, which closed more than 900 stores and has taken other measures to cut costs, is hoping to spur growth by promoting products including its Via instant coffee and its Seattle's Best brand.
