- Research shows Discovery Communications a cut above
New research from Thomson Reuters Ownership indicates Discovery Communications was targeted for more new hedge fund money than any other company in the last quarter in the U.S. Experts say even more factors put Discovery above other media investments: Its stock has climbed more than 20% in six months, it relies less on some of the hard-hit advertising sectors, owns national channels and has subscribers in 170 countries. - "Women and children first" no longer just for lifeboats
In tough times, consumers buy for children first, then mothers, pets and finally fathers, according to marketing wisdom. New ad campaigns for Pepperidge Farm Goldfish on Cartoon Network as well as J.C. Penney and State Farm on Disney Channel are indicative of the trend. NYTimes.com

- Univision takes its upfront show on the road
Instead of spending money on a glitzy upfront presentation, Univision Communications this year will send executives on the road hosting smaller meetings in five cities. The approach is quite different from last year, when 700 people gathered at New York's Lincoln Center, where Univision booked the cast of "In the Heights," or in 2007, when Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, appeared.
