- More merchants to participate in Google's ad program
Google has been experimenting with a program that puts product images in search results for paid search advertisements. The search leader is now expanding the program to more merchants. "Each day we see many users come to Google.com to research products and find where to buy them," said Dan Friedman of Google. - Online sales are expected to trend positive in 4th quarter
Online retailers continue to face a challenging landscape, but their collective fourth-quarter results are expected to outpace those from the same period last year, partially because of dismal results from last year's holidays. "We do anticipate positive growth when we look at the fourth quarter," said Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore. "That's driven by comparisons being easier ... not because inherently we're seeing any strength in consumer spending." Reuters

Online retailers are prepared to invest in technology, Web site upgrades and other enhancements even though the economic recovery has yet to truly take hold. Best Buy's mobile-retail division has launched BestBuyMobile.com, a Web site focusing on news, trends and information related to mobile products. "Most people do their research online before visiting us in Best Buy Mobile stores, so we're making it easier for them to get all the information they need in one place," said Andy Heddle of Best Buy Mobile. "We've combed the Web for the best mobile information and put it all in one place, added a deep catalog of video reviews and created a place for consumers to join the conversation."
