  • A look ahead at 2009

    Jennifer Hicks, Lead Editor

The world faces extraordinary economic times and the global credit crisis has caused delays or the suspension of many projects. But, ASCE will no doubt continue to work toward success on key measures as it pushes forward its infrastructure action plan.

By all accounts, the public is ready for action on infrastructure. Article after article points out problems with crumbling roads, decayed bridges and more, and there are loud calls for our attention -- as well as funding to support these needed projects. And President-elect Barack Obama appears to favor a stimulus plan that includes infrastructure projects. All that points to some optimism.

The upcoming 2009 ASCE Report Card for America's Infrastructure is scheduled to be released in March. It will offer an in-depth look at the state of our infrastructure, and offer large and small solutions to tackle the crisis. Its timing couldn't be better.

Now, here's what you think might happen in the year ahead.
