    ESPN led Walt Disney Co.'s media networks in the third quarter, as the cable networks as a whole reported a 14% spike in revenue, to $3.34 billion, and a 19% jump in operating income, to $1.48 billion. Disney chief Bob Iger said the sports network was carrying its momentum into the current quarter, with ad sales beginning to show an increase, particularly from the automotive and financial-services industries.     Insight Communications reported adding 201,400 revenue-generating units in the third quarter for a new total of 2.02 million RGUs systemwide.   • Study: Online video viewing has doubled since last year
    More than 25 million broadband households in the U.S. watch full-length TV shows via the Internet and about 20 million regularly watch movies online, according to a study from Parks Associates. The report went on to say that the number of households that watch streaming video has doubled since 2008, and Jayant Dasari, an analyst at the research firm, said the trend gave content distributors a major opportunity "to upgrade subscribers into higher tiers of services."   • Rainbow Media chief voices opposition to full-episode streaming: Cable networks that allow Web surfers to view their shows online for free devalues their product, according to Josh Sapan, the chief executive officer of Rainbow Media.
