- Race car drives new career for FASTSIGNS franchisee
Former telecom worker Tristan Welling's purchase of a plain white race car led him to a FASTSIGNS store. He picked up a brochure about the franchise while waiting for workers to finish the detailing on his car; less than a year later, he was opening his own FASTSIGNS franchise. Welling was drawn to the business by the regular hours and the variety he finds in each job, he says. Poughkeepsie Journal (N.Y.)

Department of Energy eyes new efficiency standards for sign ballasts
The U.S. Department of Energy is evaluating new efficiency standards that could affect fluorescent sign ballasts in the future. Under current and previous DOE rules, however, sign ballasts have not been regulated.
To represent the sign industry's interests, ISA will be working with key lighting manufacturers to develop corresponding comments. ISA also is engaged in preliminary discussions with the DOE consultant responsible for making recommendations concerning the ultimate form of these proposals. ISA will also participate directly in the relevant, DOE rule-making process.
