  • CBS not seeing ratings payoff for more daring shows
Although CBS has not scored a hit with its new roster of edgier shows, Chief Executive Leslie Moonves doesn't seem too worried about the state of the network, which this year parted ways with radio star Don Imus, suffered poor ratings for its evening news and lost 5.6% of its stock value. • Tribune sale could be impacted by FCC ownership rules debate
Tribune's $8.2 billion deal to go private is in danger of missing its aim of a year-end closing, due to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin's decision to link agency approval to a proposed Dec. 18 vote on media ownership rules to allow cross-ownership of print and TV outlets in the same market. To meet its timeline, Tribune, which needs 20 days to close the deal after the FCC votes on it, by mid-November would have to receive a temporary cross-ownership rules waiver from the FCC. But I think it's idiotic to draw conclusions too early. I've been in television for 27 years. I know you can't read the tea leaves in a couple of weeks."
