- Sources: Landmark Communications puts Weather Channel up for sale
Major media companies, including NBC, News Corp. and Comcast, reportedly have expressed interest in participating in the auction of The Weather Channel, one of the last privately owned cable channels, which is being sold by Landmark Communications as part of its larger breakup. The sale could generate more than $5 billion, people familiar with the matter said. Landmark did not comment on the issue. NYTimes.com

With presidential hopefuls on their guest lists, late-night hosts Jay Leno and David Letterman returned to TVs across the country Wednesday night after a two-month, writers' strike-induced hiatus. On Monday, Comedy Central will bring back its late-night talk shows, "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report." CNN/Associated Press

- E! gives "Chelsea" a green light for sophomore season
E! Entertainment Television has approved a second season for late-night talk show "Chelsea Lately." The show, which features stand-up comedian Chelsea Handler, premiered July 16 and has seen its ratings rise 23% since then. Variety (subscription required)

- NTIA's DTV-converter coupons going like hot cakes
The National Telecommunications & Information Administration reports that in the first 40 hours of availability, more than 500,000 people had requested $40 coupons for the purchase of digital-TV-converter boxes and that most of them asked for the maximum two coupons per household. The NTIA's program is designed to help ease the transition to all-digital TV signals by February 2009. Broadcasting & Cable

Lifetime today was scheduled to kick-start its biggest promotional campaign ever for new reality series "How To Look Good Naked" with a parade of 160 women, clad in bathrobes sporting the show's logo, appearing on New York subways and buses and marching through the streets. The multiplatform push, with partners JetBlue, Bliss Spa, ELF Cosmetics, Macy's and Maidenform, also includes print ads, TV and cable spots, radio and online elements. Multichannel News
