- Consultant discusses meaningful use "flexibility"
It will be difficult for hospitals to achieve meaningful use of health IT by 2013 due to such challenges as getting physicians to use computerized physician order entry systems and implementing closed-loop medication administration, said Mike Davis, HIMSS Analytics executive vice president. In this interview, Davis said he thinks the meaningful use matrix is designed to be partly vague, but hospitals that have nurses capturing documentation or applications implemented across most of their services "in pretty good shape." - CIO says wireless technology gives clinicians more mobility
Connecticut-based Hartford Hospital is working to implement wireless technology in all key areas of the facility to give clinicians the ability "to move around the hospital and still have access to clinical systems," CIO Steve O'Neill said in this interview. The hospital is also looking to adopt RFID applications to monitor its medical equipment, patients and employees, but is "holding off" the plan until a complete wireless system is in place, O'Neill added.
