- Comcast's Roberts keynotes at CES, unveils VOD vision
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, during a keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show today, is expected to unveil the company's plans to offer a virtually limitless menu of TV shows and movies on demand via a new Web site called Fancast.com. - Golden Globes ceremony latest strike casualty
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has opted to cancel Sunday's Golden Globes gala awards show -- which highlights the best in cable and broadcast TV and movies -- replacing it with a news conference to announce the winners. NBC, which had planned to broadcast the ceremony, said it would air several hours of coverage using an untested format despite requests from the HFPA not to telecast the show. NYTimes.com

- FCC rules on cable-contract ban officially released
The FCC rules that prohibit current and future exclusive deals between cable companies and owners of apartment and condominium buildings were published Monday in the Federal Register. The publication marks the official release of the policies, which will take effect March 7. Multichannel News

- Showtime's "Dexter" to make CBS debut in February
CBS is going ahead with its plan to repurpose episodes of Showtime's "Dexter," which stars Michael C. Hall as a forensics expert by day and a likable serial killer by night. - Debut ratings for "Naked" look good
The premiere Friday of Lifetime's "How to Look Good Naked" averaged 1.6 million total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. The show, hosted by Carson Kressley of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fame, also attracted 868,000 adults in the 18-to-49 demographic, 449,000 total 18- to 34-year-olds and 344,000 women 18 to 34. - Cox selects provider for automated STB testing
Cox Communications, which is moving to automated testing of its set-top boxes, has selected the IEX system from NDS, which can test operations on STB platforms such as Scientific Atlanta and Motorola. "We anticipate operational benefits that will result in Cox being a more agile competitor and look forward to rolling out new services and features to our customers more quickly," said Bjorn Andersson, Cox's lead QA system engineer. - Report: Cable ad spending will rise 5% in 2008
While overall U.S. ad spending will increase 4.2% in 2008, the cable TV sector will grow a full 5% this year, according to a report from TNS Media Intelligence. Two reasons cited for cable's outperforming the media industry were a writers' strike with no immediate end in sight and a presidential election, during which many people turn to cable news channels. - MTV Networks spreads out across the Web
MTV Networks has finalized content-sharing deals with online video services Dailymotion, GoFish, iMeem, MeeVee and Veoh as well as Comcast's broadband site in an attempt to find new devotees on the Web.
