- Auditors rate Cisco bid for Tandberg as fair one
Consultants retained by videoconferencing-equipment maker Tandberg have issued a report terming Cisco Systems' $3 billion takeover bid a fair one, a view that contrasts with those of some Tandberg shareholders. Bloomberg reported Friday that Cisco might drop its bid because of opposition from the Tandberg shareholders that own a 24% share of the Norwegian company. Forbes/Reuters

- UAE's Du eyes $680M network upgrade
The United Arab Emirates' second-largest telecom said it would invest $680 million to expand its
network after more than doubling its quarterly profit compared with a year earlier on a 51% increase in subscribers, said the Dubai-based Emirates Integrated Telecommunications, also known as Du. The telecom, which markets mobile, fixed-line and broadband services, said it wanted to attract more customers who spent heavily on services such as high-speed Internet. Bloomberg

- Verizon rolls out Mac version of Media Manager
Verizon Communications has introduced a Mac version of its Media Manager software that FiOS TV subscribers can use to stream a multimedia array of content from their PCs to their TV sets, the company said. - More signs point to rise of online video providers
Comcast's top operating executive Steve Burke warned Sunday that content providers and distributors had better move more aggressively to prepare for viewers' migration to online video and other platforms, which he termed "one of the biggest movements or social phenomena that I have ever seen." Three companies -- Meraki, Aerohive and AirWave -- recently announced that they had moved enterprise Wi-Fi functions into the increasingly popular realm of cloud computing. According to this report, one reason for the move is to attract integrators, resellers and carriers to the platforms so that they can pitch Wi-Fi services to enterprises, hotels, campuses and multitenant units.
