- Revenue up 4% in Time Warner Cable's third quarter
Time Warner Cable in the third quarter of this year added 117,000 high-speed data customers, 62,000 phone subscribers and 8,000 digital-TV homes. Overall, the provider racked up revenue of $4.5 billion, a 4% increase over the comparable period last year, and operating income of $828 million, a 5% increase. OneTRAK

- Strong RGU additions send Videotron's revenue 11.2% higher
Canadian cable provider Videotron has released its third-quarter results, with additional revenue-generating units in all categories: The company added 27,000 basic subscribers, 52,000 digital customers, 35,000 data subscribers and 44,000 phone lines. With all those new RGUs, Videotron reported an 11.2% increase in revenue during the time frame. OneTRAK

- Comedy Central developing sports series with The Onion
Comedy Central is developing a weekly series with satiric newspaper The Onion that will poke fun at the sports world. The as-yet-untitled series will play off the Onion Sports Network online video series, which is, according to Lauren Corrao, Comedy Central's president of original programming development, "outstanding, hilarious and exactly what you'd expect from the gang." - DVR management tool from Cablevision lets users phone it in
Cablevision is offering subscribers a new tool to program their digital video recorders via Web-enabled smartphones. The system, which runs through the company's Optimum.net mobile Web site, lets users who lease a DVR from the cable company schedule recordings and delete shows from their phones. Multichannel News

- Video industry looks for next move on Internet front
While there have been some positive steps recently, the video industry remains slow to embrace innovative, commercially viable ways to migrate TV and film content over to the Internet, according to this report. "Studios are feeling their way through," said Rick Bolton, the chief executive officer of Film Fresh, a digital-downloads firm. "On the one hand, they have the cautionary tale of the music industry before them, and on the other, they have the relatively positive example of the TV side's relationship with iTunes. - ESPN brand gets star billing at Disney sports facility
Disney next February will rename its 220-acre multisports facility outside Orlando, Fla., the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The move is, in part, designed to get young athletes in the 8-to-17 age group to interact with the ESPN brand on more levels, said Ken Potrock, the senior vice president of global sports for Disney. - McSlarrow: Feds should focus on broadband adoption first
Kyle McSlarrow, president and chief executive officer of the NCTA, said the federal government should spend the lion's share of its broadband stimulus on driving uptake of the technology rather than building new networks. Cisco Systems is expected to begin shipping in the third or fourth quarter of next year a new modular cable modem termination blade. The 3G60, which will have 60 upstream ports and 72 downstreams, will be in direct competition with Motorola's RX48, a dedicated upstream blade that is supposed to begin shipping in the third quarter of 2010.
