  • Frontier to cut workforce by 10%
Frontier Airlines says it will cut about 100 positions in an effort to offset climbing fuel and operating costs. "Due to the extreme cost environment we are faced with, we have elected to make several decisions to position the airline for long-term viability," Frontier President and CEO Sean Menke said. "We are also evaluating our fleet size and future aircraft deliveries to ensure the fleet is 'right-sized' to endure this difficult cost environment." • Airlines and pilots say carbon emissions bill takes wrong approach
A coalition of airlines and pilots on Thursday continued to criticize a bill that would cover jet fuel in a carbon emissions cap-and-trade program in the U.S. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has approved the bill, but the Air Transport Association and other industry groups said they have real concerns that the legislation "would greatly increase airline costs and would compromise our ability to invest in new aircraft and other fleet upgrades, the very things we need to continue to improve our emissions profile." • Column: Airport screening intentionally unpredictable
The TSA's policy on items that cannot be brought beyond security checkpoints may frustrate some travelers, writes Harriet Baskas in MSNBC. However, a TSA spokesman said the inconsistencies are intentional. "The 9/11 terrorists knew exactly what to expect at security, so we like to introduce a bit of unpredictability," he noted.
