- Palm cites economy, mature market for revenue shortfall
Palm blamed "unprecedented dynamics in the global markets" -- its reference to the poor economy and maturing smartphone market -- in warning that second-quarter revenue will fall 41% shy of analysts' expectations when the company reports earnings this month. - Alcatel-Lucent: "No intention" of selling mobile unit
With speculation on its plans rampant, Alcatel-Lucent said it had "no intention" of selling its mobile operations, as a company spokesman pointed to CEO Ben Verwaayen's recent comment that Alcatel must take a leading role in the transition to next-generation Long Term Evolution technology. Analysts have mused about Alcatel's next moves ahead of the equipment maker's planned Dec. 12 disclosure of its plans for reversing losses that have coincided with the fading of its core telecom market. - Nokia gets touchy with new N97
Nokia has introduced its flagship N-Series touch-screen smartphone product today, the N97, as the global hardware leader tries to improve its sliding position in the high-end mobile market. With the N97, Nokia will take aim at Sony Ericsson's X1 and HTC's Touch Pro handsets, while charging about the same it did for its N95 and N96 flagship devices when they debuted. Reuters
