  • Bloggers come under FTC scrutiny
    New endorsement guidelines from the Federal Trade Commission target bloggers who accept freebies from marketers in exchange for favorable mention, or who give favorable mention to marketers who buy advertising on blogs. Bloggers will be required to disclose such remuneration on their blogs. Linda Goldstein, an attorney at the law firm of Manatt Phelps & Phillips, which represents the PMA and two allied trade groups, characterized the changes as a "seismic shift" in the way marketers interact with bloggers, and said, "We would have preferred the FTC to work closer with the industry to learn how viral marketing works."   • Virtual couponing heats up
    Ask Deals is a new online database of virtual coupons from search engine Ask.com that promises to list more than 1 million ways to save money. In other online couponing news, ChaCha, a mobile and online search service, has launched a coupon service called ChaChaCoupons.com that allows users to home in on discounts and promotions. Users can redeem coupons via mobile device, or send them via text message to an in-store coupon printer.
