- IAB seeks feedback on set of audience measurement best practices
The IAB has set a Jan. 20 deadline for comments on the draft version of its Audience Reach Measurement Guidelines, which are meant to become a set of best practices for determining the number of Web site visitors. "Even if the guidelines achieve little else, if they get people using these disparate terms in a common way that will be helpful for the industry and people outside of it," said Joe Laszlo, the IAB's director of research. - FTC wants marketers to get specific with promises
Many marketers believe proposed changes to FTC rules that would require specific disclaimers about products, including weight-loss programs and financial investment returns, are unnecessary and not justified by the agency. Critics say the two FTC reports being used to support the proposed changes to current guidelines were not broad enough in scope, and are calling on the agency to retain the current system. MySpace Open Platform, which was announced at an industry event on Monday in Paris, allows users to access the social network through partner sites, including Google and Vodaphone Group, as well as link with MySpace contacts and send and publish information from those sites on their MySpace pages. CBS and Warner Bros. are using technology from startup FreeWheel that allows video content providers to package advertising along with their content -- a measure that media companies hope will help prevent viewers from obtaining ad-free pirated versions of their videos. Honda has named Wieden + Kennedy, Amsterdam, to handle creative duties for the automaker's green marketing campaign for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia.
