  • Wi-Fi hotspots as marketing medium?
    The U.S., with more than 67,000 public Wi-Fi access points far outranks any other nation in public hotspots, which as a category have grown 400% worldwide over the past five years, JiWire is reporting.   • Gartner: Mobile ads will explode in 2011
    Worldwide mobile-advertising revenues will jump by 74% this year, but the sector is expected to take off by 2011.   • Investment group buys majority stake in Skype
    An investment group that includes newcomer Andreessen Horowitz, as well as established private equity firms Index Ventures and Silver Lake Partners, is acquiring 65% of VoIP service Skype from eBay for $1.9 billion in cash. Online auction house eBay bought Skype in 2005 for $2.1 billion and will retain 35% of the company. EBay chief executive John Donahoe said, "This is a great deal, unlocking both immediate and long-term value for eBay and tremendous potential for Skype."
