- Government developing new exercise guidelines
The government later this year will issue a series of health guidelines on exercise and physical fitness, which will highlight that the amount of exercise is more important than the intensity of the exercise. CDC officials said new data show overall smoking rates have remained the same between 2003 and 2007, indicating that efforts to reduce teen smoking in the U.S. have stalled in the past five years as programs lose funding in many states. - Florida seeks ways to avoid hospital readmissions
The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration is attempting to find ways to cut down avoidable hospital readmissions following a report that 7% of patients hospitalized for certain conditions were readmitted within 15 days. Next week's review of the future of the National Health Service by Lord Darzi will include an expansion of nurse-led services, including the right of nurses to request a local primary care trust to allow them to set up as a nonprofit trust.
