Over the course of 2007, I have been pleased to deliver you the industry news that matters to your business. Part I of this AdvaMed SmartBrief special year-end report rounds up the most important trends, stories and events of the past year. Part II, which will hit your inbox on Thursday, will provide a glimpse into what's in store for 2008.
This year began with news of various company cost-cutting measures, including layoffs, and the start of numerous corporate mergers and acquisitions. Device safety, especially concerning drug-coated stents, remained a top issue throughout the year. In the second half of 2007, the industry celebrated the reauthorization of the FDA user fee act, which will have major implications in coming years. AdvaMed achieved another milestone in developing a health care reform linking universal health insurance coverage to a comprehensive plan to reduce health care costs through preventive health, quality and efficiency improvements and measures to speed the pace of medical innovation.
This year's conferences took AdvaMed members to the Second Annual Congress on "Global Approaches to Risk Management throughout Product Life Cycles," the Emerging Trends & Medicare Policy for Medical Technologies conference, the Emerging Growth Company conference, the 11th Conference of the Global Harmonization Task Force and to the AdvaMed 2007 Medical Technology Conference. It was an exciting year, indeed.
And now, here's what was most important to YOU in 2007.
