  • Florida to offer prescription-drug discount cards
    Florida will offer prescription-drug discount cards to residents over age 60 who don't have prescription-drug coverage or who fall into the Medicare Part D prescription-drug coverage "gap" and to residents under age 60 who are below a certain income threshold.   • Kmart to stay open for 64 hours
    Kmart is hoping to boost sales during the last shopping days before Christmas by remaining open for 64 straight hours starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Procrastinators will have until 10 p.m. Dec. 24 to pick up last-minute gifts.   • Plaintiffs request opt-outs from Vioxx settlement
    Lawyers representing some of the plaintiffs in the $4.85-billion Vioxx settlement have filed an emergency motion with U.S. District Court in New Orleans, seeking permission to keep clients who want to take the case to trial out of the settlement. A lawyer for Merck & Co. said that the company would oppose the motion, adding that the judge may not approve it since the Vioxx cases were not being tried as a class action.   • Zetia research findings not fully disclosed, NYT reports
    The New York Times reports it found several unpublished safety studies on cholesterol drug Zetia that raise questions about risks to the liver. An executive of Schering-Plough Corp. said the drugmaker and its partner, Merck & Co., had not considered the studies scientifically important enough to publish.
