The company did say that business at T-Mobile U.K. had stabilized. The Wall Street Journal (11/5) , Bloomberg (11/5) , Google/The Associated Press (11/5) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

  Earnings Roundup
  • Profit increases at MetroPCS on deep cost-cutting
MetroPCS managed to boost its third-quarter profit 64% after a broad cost-cutting program, the prepaid wireless carrier said, but it conceded its subscriber growth underperformed expectations because of higher churn and slower consumer demand. "We believe this was the result of continued U.S. macro-economic weakness, an increasingly competitive environment, and upward adjustments we made to the price of certain handsets," said Chairman and CEO Roger Linquist. Qualcomm investors were cheered by the chip maker's 15-year extension of its patent-royalty agreement with Samsung in which the phone maker will deliver a $1.3 billion down payment, Samsung said.
