  • Report: Cap-and-trade could raise fuel costs by $3.6T
The cap-and-trade provision of the climate-change bill could raise U.S. fuel costs by $3.6 trillion between 2015 and 2050, according to a report released by two Republican senators. The proposed climate legislation aims to reduce carbon emissions by 80% between 2012 and 2050, in part by limiting greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. companies. The report, issued by Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, and Christopher S. Bond, R-Mo., estimates fuel costs will increase by 24 cents per gallon by 2020.
