- Michigan chamber gives entrepreneurs access to experts
Michigan's Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce has scheduled an event this month called JumpStart to provide training for starting a business or growing an existing one. National Federation of Independent Businesses statistics indicate new businesses have a 39% chance of becoming profitable, and JumpStart will bring together experts in government contracting, business planning, marketing, communication and related issues to help entrepreneurs learn how to succeed. - Virginia chamber to honor active armed-services personnel
Virginia's Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce will pay tribute to more than 150 armed-services personnel Thursday at a reception where Rear Adm. The Baltimore Sun offers a guide to evaluating the franchise model, including how to determine what it will cost and where to get professional advice. About 900,000 franchised businesses and 3,000 franchise systems exist in the U.S., according to the International Franchise Association. - CARU asks MPAA to review complaints about PG-13 movie ads
At the request of the Better Business Bureau's Children's Advertising Review Unit, the Motion Picture Association of America will investigate complaints about ads for PG-13 movies screened during TV programs aimed at children under 12. "We see this as good self-regulation that will combine CARU's independent ad monitoring with MPAA's rating expertise," said Lee Peeler, president-CEO of the National Advertising Review Council, which oversees CARU.
