Big Three CEOs meet with Bush
The chief executives of the Big Three automakers, Rick Wagoner of General Motors, Alan Mulally of Ford Motor and Tom LaSorda of Chrysler Group, met at the White House with President George Bush, for what was billed as a frank and open discussion of issues facing the U.S. auto industry, including the rising cost of health care and trade issues. Bush and the auto executives agreed that a federal bailout of the industry was neither desirable nor necessary.   The Detroit News (11/15)

Toyota's ambitious sales targets

BMW road tests hydrogen car
The BMW Hydrogen 7, still in development, uses liquid hydrogen in a combustion engine, as opposed to a hydrogen-powered fuel cell. Marketers are enjoying success with branded mini-applications or widgets distributed by Yahoo! Among the 3,700 widgets available via Yahoo! Widgets is an Acura-branded service that gives real-time local traffic reports, a "Jimmy Dean Happy News Ticker" sponsored by Sara Lee that features only good news and a widget launched by Purina that gives weather reports to pet owners.   Adweek (11/14)

According to Autobytel's "Consumer Choice" report, falling fuel costs provide a boost to trucks and SUVs, but the bulk of the market still has its eye on fuel-efficient models. Hot cars for Q3 include the Dodge Caliber, Scion tC and Toyota Highlander Hybrid.   Business Wire (11/15)
Report: Reliability of U.S. cars improves "dramatically"
In a promising sign for the U.S. auto industry, Consumer Reports has rated a number of domestic models in the top tier for initial quality.  Ford's brand on the mend: Although Ford Motor is still in turnaround mode, it received a boost when Consumer Reports gave Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan high marks, placing them alongside top-sellers Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord in terms of reliability. Toyota named "Marketer of the Year" by Advertising Age
Toyota appears to be in the driver's seat, as far as automotive marketing is concerned. Under a new agreement, Autoybtel Inc. will be the exclusive price-quote fulfillment channel for AOL Autos users looking for price information from local dealerships. Autobytel's lead distribution technology will be integrated within the AOL Auto channel. Autobytel and Dealix come to terms in patent suit
Autobytel Inc. and Dealix Corp. announced they have agreed in principle to a settlement in a 2004 patent infringement lawsuit filed by Autobytel against Dealix over a type of e-commerce service that matches buyers and sellers.
