Novatel introduced a mobile technology Tuesday that is designed to bring hot spots to wherever a user goes. The MiFi, about as large as a deck of cards, integrates a 3G modem, router and Linux-based PC that not only creates Internet connectivity on the go but also runs Linux-based applications. PC Magazine

- AT&T sets Q2 as femtocell metro debut
AT&T, which had previously announced plans to deploy femtocell technology on its network, said Tuesday that it would introduce the wireless home base stations to its first metropolitan area in the second quarter of 2009. "We are really excited about this," AT&T Operations Chief Executive Officer John Stankey told a media conference. He also suggested that the carrier would take an integrated approach. Google picked up significant backing for its Android mobile operating system Tuesday when 14 cell phone and chip makers pledged to back the open-source platform. - Netflix CFO says company has hit 9-million mark
Netflix Chief Financial Officer Barry McCarthy says that the DVD-by-mail business now has 9 million subscribers and that its online video-streaming success is proof that consumers are becoming increasingly comfortable watching TV shows and movies via the Internet.
